Be the Bridge

Hans Küng said, ‘There will be no peace among the nations without peace among the religions. There will be no peace among the religions without dialogue among the religions.’ In 1930, Norwegian missionary Karl Ludvig Reichelt founded Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre. Ever since we have striven to accomplish the mission of bridge and dialogue. We hope to inherit the mission on dialogue by working in the following three areas.

Interfaith Dialogue

Learning to respect a person different from ourselves is not enough; we should also learn to enjoy the differences in others and learn to listen and understand them. For ignorance and poor communication lead to unnecessary conflicts. Reichelt’s very first vision of Tao Fong Shan was to nurture ‘Christian Brotherhood among Buddhists”. We inherit Reichelt’s mission to bring together a range of religious traditions for the purposes of positive collaboration and dialogue in Hong Kong through online resource platform, seminars, workshops, forums and courses.

Cross Cultural Exchange

Over the years, we have been working closely with Scandinavian churches through Ascension House volunteer exchange program, the Scandinavian Pilgrimage and Spiritual Journey. Together we explore, experience and exercise the various Christian cultural traditions, giving young Christians a global perspective on spiritual life. Acting as a bridge between Scandinavian and Hong Kong churches these programs create deep friendships.

Christianity and Chinese Culture

Christianity in China has a history going back to the 8th century. Despite this long co-history, there has been insufficient dialogue between the Christianity and Chinese Culture. We explore Christianity in a relevant and meaningful way to the contemporary Chinese by providing various academic programs and seminars for Christian ministers. Programs include the Pastoral Enrichment Program and Master of Art in Theological Studies. Through these courses, Christianity can be integrated within and flourish in a contemporary Chinese context.

I hope you can be the bridge and join us in dialogue.
